Old-fashioned knock-down drag-outs have been known to settle disputes over the last piece of this sugar cream pie!

1 cup sugar
1 ½ cups milk, divided
¼ cup cornstarch
½ cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 baked pie shell

In small saucepan, mix sugar, 1 cup milk, and butter.  Over low heat, let the butter just melt into mixture.  Mix ½ cup milk and cornstarch.  Gradually stir into mixture in saucepan.  Cook over low heat, stirring continuously, until thick.  Add vanilla. Pour into cooled pie shell and sprinkle with nutmeg. Let the pie set 2 to 3 hours before serving.
